In case you have been living in a cave Elon Musk has purchased Twitter. With that he has promised to return freedom of speech to the platform. Friday night they dropped a huge bombshell of files around the Hunter Biden laptop story. I do not want to dive into the Biden laptop story because I am not the Judge, jury, or executioner of the investigation. Instead, I want to dive into what happened at Twitter and other social media platforms that should piss you off beyond belief. This is a war of words that every single US citizen should be willing to battle.
The first thing I noticed as I was reading the articles about these documents is that BOTH major political parties had someone’s ear inside Twitter. Trump team had made suppression requests on stories he did not like, and Biden team had requested suppression of stories they did not like. While clearly this flows more in one direction it does not excuse it for either group. This is a very much a breach of Bill of Rights. The 1st Amendment was very specific about government interference in freedom a speech. There was even a tweet made about how some democrats agreed that the First Amendment is not absolute.
This is not the first time, nor will it be the last. The Federal Government does want to shrink rights of the American Public to speak out against their corruption. While this case is specifically tied to the Democratic party, they did say there was instances in which the Trump Administration had done the same. This is not acceptable. For those who are still not on the train let me give you the exact words of the second amendment.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
I know that some legal language is hard to understand but that is pretty damn clear. But let’s also add the legal encyclopedia remarks from Cornell University as seen on their website First Amendment | Wex | US Law | LII / Legal Information Institute (cornell.edu)
Freedom of Speech / Freedom of the Press
The most basic component of freedom of expression is the right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech may be exercised in a direct (words) or a symbolic (actions) way. Freedom of speech is recognized as a human right under article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The right to freedom of speech allows individuals to express themselves without government interference or regulation. The Supreme Court requires the government to provide substantial justification for the interference with the right of free speech where it attempts to regulate the content of the speech. Generally, a person cannot be held liable, either criminally or civilly for anything written or spoken about a person or topic, so long as it is truthful or based on an honest opinion and such statements.
This should be something taken to the highest court in the land and heard by the Supreme Court of the United States. The Federal Government is no longer public servants, it is politicians who think you are beneath them and at the same time blocking them from the supreme power they believe they wield.
The Federal Government should only be focused on Foreign Affairs, Military, and Interstate Commerce. Outside of that they should be making sure the US Constitution is being upheld and civil rights for ALL Americans is being respected. It is time to shrink the US Government before they cause the fall of the United States of America.
